Arsenal's Manager Concedes Future Tenure Hinges on Lifting Silverware.
As he approaches his six-year milestone in charge, Mikel Arteta has made it clear that his continued role with the club is fundamentally dependent to delivering trophies.
A Look Back: Six Years in Charge
The Spanish coach was appointed on December 20th, 2019 and promptly led the team to an FA Cup victory not long after. But, that initial silverware remains his only major honor since succeeding Unai Emery.
“Absolutely,” he stated when questioned about staying beyond 2027. “But it’s about today. And a lot of things need to fall into place in the coming months as well to earn the right.”
Saturday night brings the landmark with a match versus Everton, the very same club Arsenal met the day after his role was made public.
The Current Landscape
Given that second-placed Manchester City taking on West Ham on Saturday afternoon, Arsenal could be displaced first place in the Premier League for the first time. This potential shift notwithstanding Arteta managing a squad that has been plagued by in excess of one hundred injury setbacks since the start of last season.
The manager is tied down by 18 months remaining on the contract he inked in 2024, yet understands fully that he must deliver in the immediate future.
Survival in the Job
He went on to explain, stressing the ongoing need to justify his role. “My belief is that a manager must deserve the right to be here tomorrow. And that depends on how you react, how you talk here, how you enter the dressing room, the instructions you give.”
He stated further, praising the strong backing from the board and owners, while singling out the players' commitment as the key factor. “At the end, the most important ones are those players... During my tenure, I’ve seen just players with a level of attention, desire to learn and give their all to the team.”

Arsenal faces the upcoming game coping with yet another injury. Defender Ben White has been ruled out with a hamstring injury that is anticipated to keep him out for a few weeks.
A Different Club
Even with the availability issues and the intense pressure, Arteta feels the club's “objectives and communication” are profoundly distinct from when he first arrived.
He pointed to the squad's displays as proof they are close. “Consider the performances, all the records that we... were breaking... We still haven't been able to do that [win trophies]. But that tells you the caliber we've reached.”
He finished by saying, “That is a level that the Premier League has not witnessed in the past. And our ambition is to achieve greater objectives. And if we do that, I think we are on the correct trajectory to winning.”
