Equatorial Guinea Duo Issued Multi-Game Ban for Official Abuse at Afcon.
The team captain will be absent for his side's final group fixture at Afcon 2025.
The National Thunder captain Carlos Akapo and fellow squad member Josete Miranda have both been suspended for four games for abusing the referee after their 1-0 defeat by their opponents at the 2025 Afcon.
The ruling was handed down by a governing body committee after it examined the referee's report from the tournament clash on Sunday, a result that sealed the team's elimination from the competition.
The official stated that the two footballers "repeatedly uttered abusive and obscene comments" towards him and his linesmen following the full-time whistle.
"These remarks were delivered in a context of intense frustration related to the defeat, but nonetheless constitute a serious breach of the principles of sportsmanship and fair play as well as the disciplinary regulations," added the official.
Two matches of the individual bans for the two players have been suspended for a term of one year.
Immediate Impact
Both players will now miss their nation's last group match against their next opponents on midweek.
Meanwhile, the country's football federation has been fined a sum of $10,000 after its technical staff and squad members engaged in "persistent and abusive protests" against calls by the refereeing team.
The official documentation indicated there was "a progressive decline in behaviour on the sidelines" following an unfortunate deflection by defender Saul Coco in the 74th minute.
Further Governing Body Measures
Elsewhere, the tournament organizers have also penalized Stallions skipper Bertrand Traore the sum of ten thousand dollars for "offensive remarks" made in a post-game media appearance after his team's defeat to their Group E rivals.
